Within the south Pennines area, people and goods need to travel between the business heartlands of Yorkshire, Lancashire and the North Midlands. Many of these journeys cross the internationally important landscape of the Peak District National Park. Tough decisions will need to be taken to balance environmental and economic issues and road and rail investment.

The Peak Park Transport Forum has been working to create a balanced integrated transport strategy, an approach favoured by Central Government.
