WHO OR WHAT IS SPITS?
SPITS, or the South Pennines Integrated Transport Strategy, was formulated by the Peak Park Transport Forum (PPTF) in 1994. The PPTF itself developed out of a group of Highway and Public Transport Authorities. This grouping initially was used to consider the transport content of the Peak District National Park Authority structure plan and continues now as the PPTF. It comprises:

· Staffordshire County Council

· Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council

· the Peak District National Park Authority and The Countryside Agency
· 2 railway companies
· English Welsh Scottish Railways
· 2 Public Transport Executives
· South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive
· Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive
